Amish Friendship Bread

This is the Amish Friendship Bread print out that goes with the Amish Friendship Starter post. That way your friend, that you give the starter, will know how to share and make the bread for their family too.

Important Note: Do not use metal bowls or spoons! Do not refrigerate.

If air gets into the bag, let it out. It is normal for the batter to rise, bubble, and ferment.

Amish Friendship Bread Instructions:

Day 1: Do nothing. This is the date on which you receive the bag. Squish-squash-mush the bag. Make sure the bag is dated!

Day 2: Squish-squash-mush the bag.
Day 3: Squish-squash-mush the bag.
Day 4: Squish-squash-mush the bag.

Day 5: Add to the bag 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup milk. Squish-squash-mush the bag.

Day 6: Squish-squash-mush the bag.
Day 7: Squish-squash-mush the bag.
Day 8: Squish-squash-mush the bag.
Day 9: Squish-squash-mush the bag.

Day 10: BAKING DAY! Mix and divide the starter as follows:

1) Pour entire contents of bag into a large non-metal bowl and add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup milk.

2) Measure out 4 separate batches of the starter batter, 1 cup each, into 4 separate Ziplock bags (one-gallon size).

3) Keep one for yourself and give the other 3 to friends along with a copy of this recipe/instructions.

4) Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease or butter 2 large loaf pans.

Optional: In a separate bowl, mix ½ cup sugar and 1 ½ tsp cinnamon. Dust the greased pans with half the cinnamon/sugar mixture.

5) With the remaining batter in the bowl, add:

  1. 3 Eggs
  2. 1 cup Olive oil
  3. 1/2 cup Milk
  4. 1 cup Sugar
  5. 2 tsp. Cinnamon
  6. 1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
  7. 1 ½ tsp. Baking Powder
  8. 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
  9. 1/2 tsp. Salt
  10. 2 cups Flour

Optional:

1 large box instant vanilla or chocolate pudding (about 5.9 oz.)
1 cup Chopped Nuts, Blueberries, or Raisins

Bake at 325 F degrees for 1 hour. Cool until bread loosens from sides of the pan and turn over onto a serving dish.

If the bag isn’t passed on to a friend on the 10th day, be certain to tell the recipient which day the bag is at when you give it to them. If you keep a starter bag for yourself, you will be baking every 10 days.

Day 5 Mix:

Day 10 Baking:
