What is a Cricut BrightPad and how do you use it? The Cricut BrightPad is a lightweight 9 in. x 11.5 in. LED-backlit surface that you can use it for drawing, sketching, tracing, and weeding of your Cricut projects. This is a big game-changer for anyone doing iron-on, vinyl, any of the Cricut glitter materials (This part is a big deal!), and adhesive projects that require a lot of weeding! The BrightPad has 5 brightness levels to help you see your project cut or drawing lines clearly. Even though the BrightPad is lightweight at 1.75 lbs. it can hold up after being drop into the tile or hardwood floor.

I like the way the BrightPad makes it easier to see the fine lines of my tracing and weeding projects. With the 5 different lighting settings, it helps reduce eye strain. For me, the BrightPad helps with the occasional frustration of weeding intricate designs with a really small part that can be hard to see. The BrightPad helps me find these small pieces quickly and easily. I don’t know why I waited so long to get one in the first place! For me the BrightPad is easy and comfortable to use, then a clunky standard lightbox.

The BrightPad surface is scratch-resistant and resilient so you don’t have to worry about scratch the screen with your weeding tools. The back of the BrightPad is nonslip so it makes it easy to use it on a hard surface like a table or desk. The BrightPad does have a 6 ft. USB power cable with a wall adapter. Since the BrightPad is lightweight it doesn’t have a battery which is fine with me and I usually set near a power outlet anyway. I find that the 6 ft. USB power cable is long enough for me, especially when I am sitting on the couch with my family.

One suggested I would make when using the BrightPad is to lightly bend your project before placing it on the BrightPad surface. It will make the cut line on your project stand out more so it will be easier to see. I do this especially with pattern and glitter materials because it will help the light shine through the lines with more definition.

You can also use the BrightPad for creating your own custom embroidery or cross-stitch patterns, working on a project with small parts like jewelry, calligraphy, tracing quilt applique, Bible journaling, and the list can go on for a mile! If you have a difficult time seeing your cut lines on your Cricut project and we all run into that issue one time or another. Or you could do any of the other projects I mentioned above, then the BrightPad is a great addition to your craft room tool kit.
