This will make it easier and quicker for you to choose the best email marketing solution for you!
Email marketing software is the #1 must have to grow any online business or blog. You will need to grow your subscriber list by giving valuable offers and information to your readers. Per different studies, you can get an average rate of return of $44 for each $1 spent on email marketing. This is a big part of the marketing you don’t want to miss out on. It goes without saying that email marketing is one of the best returns on investment so far. Bloggers and online businesses would agree that email marketing is an important piece of growing their business. At the end of this post, you have the power to decide which email marketing system will work best for you!

Does the free trial of GetResponse limit my access to its features?
Their website does not state that they limit your access to any of the features during your trial experience. However, they do offer a referral program when you invite a friend to the service. Does the free trial of AWeber limit my access to its features?
No, you will get all the features they offer in your trial experience. You can change your plan with AWeber at any time to fit your needs.
What is ConvertKit?
ConvertKit is a cloud-based email marketing automation system and lead generation solution. The system helps you to increase your email subscriber list and automate email marketing with drag-n-drop email sequences, workflow automation rules, landing page templates, custom opt-in forms, and more. With ConvertKit, you can create click worthy opt-in forms and embed them on your website. The forms will adjust to the place where they are added such as the sidebar, ends of posts, etc.
You can create an unlimited amount of forms with each offering to entice more sign-ups. Plus, you can set specific opt-in forms for individual posts and add a precise call to action for each post. The ConvertKit offers three landing page templates and you can easily customize text, textures, patterns, and colors without coding skills. For other custom changes, you can add CSS code as an option.
One of the perks of ConvertKit is that you can send email broadcasts to the complete list of subscribers. You can even send a personalized message to a select group to announce discounts, product launches, fresh blog posts, etc. You can even save these groups for future email campaigns. Besides, you can exclude groups of subscribers from the email broadcast, such as customers who have previously bought the product offered in the messages.

What’s the difference between the ConvertKit Free plan and the Complete plan?
The Free plan was launched to give creators a way to test out new ideas and take that first leap without having to build a full website. Instead of jumping through hoop after hoop of domain names and registrations, a creator can now build a landing page in minutes to get their creative project out into the world.
The point of the Free plan: it’s a tool to help creators and bloggers to get started. The Free plan includes unlimited landing pages and forms and email broadcasts sent to 1,000 subscribers.
The other features in ConvertKit (automation and sequences) are available to creators on the Complete plan.
However, creators on the Free plan can take part in our Refer a Friend program to unlock more features.
- Each successful referral lets both you and your friend add 100 subscribers to manage for free.
- The more friends you refer to create a ConvertKit account, the more subscribers you can add in your own account (Limit: 100 subscribers).
Extra bonus – If you’re on the Complete plan you can also add more subscribers through the Refer a Friend program.
I explain the different plans in more detail below.
What are some disadvantages to GetResponse?
GetResponse will count one subscriber as two when the same subscriber is added on two email lists, this can impact your pricing. Some might find GetResponse to be overwhelming due to all the features they offer. To help with that you GetResponse provides you with webinar training on their features, email strategies, and how to use your campaigns.
If you find that Getresponse is more than what you really need or is too overwhelming. Then I would suggest ConvertKit instead. The most important thing is to find the right email marketing system for you! Sometimes when an email marketing tool has too many bells and whistles it can be very overwhelming!
What are some disadvantages to AWeber?
Multiple email segments cannot be included or excluded when sending emails and newsletters. Some templates are outdated and might not reflect certain niches well. RSS to email templates can be poor and cannot be edited with the AWeber drag and drop email generator. AWeber can only do sequential emails. There is no branching or running different automation in parallel like you can do in other email marketing tools. You don’t have the option to do A/B split testing of your forms.
Sometimes you have to get in contact with AWeber to turn off double opt-in on some lists, even if you have already turned it off in the backend settings. You will want to keep your mail lists clean because you will be charged for duplicate subscribers (that includes on different lists too) and those who unsubscribe from your lists. This is a big pain, time consuming, and forces you to do a regular cleanup of your lists in your account. AWeber cost has also been a sticking point too.
What are some disadvantages to ConvertKit?
There are some simple edits you can do to email and form templates. However, if you want to dress it up to make it shine, or be eye-catching, you will need to know CSS or HTML. If you are not into coding then this can cause some difficulties for you. If you just want a simplified email marketing solution and not planning to do coding, then ConverKit will work for you. ConvertKit has A/B testing functionality and reporting data that is limited.
If you want to send visual emails then ConvertKit is not the tool for you, I would suggest GetResponse instead. ConvertKit would be a better fit for you if you are looking into getting started with email marketing and don’t want to get overloaded. They also have a free beginner’s plan that is great for people who are just starting out.

How To Make Money Online In 8 Easy Steps For Beginners
Do you want to learn more about how to make money online? Before I got started with my blogging and affiliate marketing, I did months of research on how to make money online.
This post is very well-organized and full of useful information. Thank you so much for sharing!
I currently use Mailchimp but I’ve heard so many good things about Convert Kit. I was thinking about switching over and I might put a little more thought into it after this review.
So much information here that I need to assess as I really want to develop email marketing on my site!
Since you are new to email marketing, I would suggest starting with the free version of ConvertKit. That way you will not have to pay a monthly fee while you are learning the system.
This is such a well written post. Very helpful.
I appreciate how thorough and organized this review is, with the tables and lists – I always love those. I was going to ask about MailChimp, which is what I currently use, and Constant Contact, but I see you addressed both of those in the comments. This will help me decide on my next step, which I plan to take soon.
I am happy that could help to you, Beth!
These are amazing options! I think it is time for me to move away from Mailchimp. I will check these out, thanks a lot.
Thank you, Chad! I moved away from MailChimp awhile back because I wasn’t getting the flexibility I wanted out of it. I hope one of these email systems will fit your needs better. I like that ConvertKit has a free version to help get new bloggers started.
There is so much valuable information here for bloggers. I am new to this. Really appreciate all of your knowledge:)
Thank you, Rochelle! My goal is to help bloggers find the right tools and strategies for them.
It’s like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about
this, like you, wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit,
but instead of that, this is great blog. A great read. I’ll definitely be back.
Thank you Deanne! I try to do as much research before putting out posts like this. I believe people are smart enough to make the decision for themselves when given honest information.
Nice review, I was wondering why you didn’t include Constant Contact in you email system review?
That is a good question! I didn’t include Constant Contact because it is a better fit for bigger businesses. It is more expensive and is not a good fit for bloggers, especially for those starting out. I hope I answer your question Jill.
